Goals of the Our VOTE training manual
Elevate the cultural consciousness of African Americans as it relates to participation in the work of social justice. This goal is achieved by including brief biographical profiles (in each section of the manual) of African American men and women who engaged in civic participation out of a deep and abiding faith.
Empower congregations to effect positive change in their communities by engaging the political process on local and national issues that impact lives. This goal is achieved by providing them with a paradigm for grassroots organizing, coalition building, strategic planning and setting clear attainable goals within a set time frame. Scriptures that support liberation theology are provided throughout the manual.
Equip congregations with tools necessary to influence electoral politics in ways that reflect the values of the community. This goal is achieved through training congregations and communities on how to conduct legal and effective voter registration drives that increase voter turnout and educate potential voters on ballet initiatives and the political views of candidates.

DESCRIPTION
In the words of Civil Rights leader Andrew Young, "The Ecumenism of the civil rights movement was absolutely essential to its success." The goal of our organizing in the faith community is to build a network of social justice advocates across religious and denominational lines that will have an impact on the political process in ways that improve the lives of the people that they serve. In building this network we will link religious leaders with local and national grassroots organizations to nurture relationships and strengthen their capacity to improve the quality of life for all people.
We will work to educate people of faith on relevant issues and train them on how to organize so that their voices are heard before political decisions are made that impact their lives. Our work will build on the history of social justice in the religious community by teaching them about the work of other activist that have contributed to the movement toward equality and justice for people regardless of race, economic status or gender.
